Walden Pond is a townhome community developed in the early 1980's and comprised of a diverse mixture of home styles. There are 1 bedroom loft-style homes with skylights and there are more traditional floorplans with 2 or 3 bedrooms. Some homes have fireplaces, and some have basements. Many of these basements have been converted into separate living spaces and serve as a guest house or a source of rental income.

Walden Pond is a wonderful place to live because of two main qualities - the people and the location. Many Walden Pond residents have lived here since the neighborhood was first built. There is a vibrant diversity in Walden Pond. There are young single professionals, families and retirees. The racial makeup of the community closely mirrors that of the Durham population. Walden Pond is conveniently located very near Duke University, I-85, the Durham Freeway and 15-501. Despite being in such a central and convenient location, there is an abundance of nature and wildlife in our community. Our pond is home to waterfowl, turtles and fish, and deer and rabbits can often be seen in the neighborhood. Squirrels are abundant.

The Board of Directors of Walden Pond is currently in a very active process of renewing and beautifying our community. There are challenges that come with a community that is over twenty years old. However, there are many advantages of an established subdivision such as Walden Pond, including the beautiful, mature trees and the close-knit community of residents who have lived here for many years.
